Rigoletto is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the 1832 play Le roi s’amuse by Victor Hugo. Despite serious initial problems with the Austrian censors who had control over northern Italian theaters at the time, the opera had a triumphant premiere at La Fenice in Venice on 11 March 1851. The work, Verdi’s sixteenth in the genre, is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-to-late career.

The tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda. The opera’s original title, La Maledizion (The Curse), refers to a curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by the Count Monterone, whose daughter the Duke has seduced with Rigoletto’s encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices her life to save him from the assassin hired by her father.

This is a full-scale, traditional Italian production with beautiful sets and costumes created in Europe.

Teatro Lirico D’Europa was created in 1988 by the late Yves Josse, a former ballet divo and brilliant French arts promoter, and Giorgio Lalov, a young Bulgarian opera singer who made his debut at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, at the age of 25 while participating in Scala’s famous international training program for young singers. The collaboration between Josse and Lalov was a huge success in a very short time, resulting in tours with over 250 performances a season worldwide.

From the very beginning, the company established itself as highly competent in delivering traditional, full-scale productions featuring a full, professional orchestra and chorus, and professional opera singers who performed at the top national theatres in their native countries. The unusual chemistry of the company proved to be very popular with European audiences. Teatro Lirico D’Europa had completed over 2,000 performances worldwide at the time of Josse’s passing in 1995.

Established in 1997, the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra is Connecticut’s premier professional chamber orchestra, based in the Greater New Britain area, and dedicated to presenting both traditional and contemporary works to the public. Written by Ara Fitzgerald, designed by Ola DeKorne, illustrated by the author’s whimsical line drawings and Peter Cunningham’s explosive photographs, Slow Dancing Is Easy is playful and inventive as it touches on love and loss in daily life and the search for resilience when confronted with today’s challenges.

It is intended for the general reader as well as dance/theater, poetry aficionados and performers seeking solo material.

Author Bio:

Ara Fitzgerald is a choreographer, writer, improvisor, performer and educator. Known for solos with original text, she revels in collaborations with photographer/filmmaker, Peter Cunningham, composer, Wall Matthews, Clare Byrne, Paris based choreographer, Martha Moore, and the honor to perform reconstructions of work by renowned dancer/clown, Lotte Goslar. A graduate of Connecticut College and Wesleyan University (MALS), she taught at Connecticut College, Trinity Square Conservatory, the National Theater Institute, and served as director of dance and theater at Manhattanville College. Her work has been seen on and off Broadway, in dance spaces and museums. When she told her grandmother, a retired vaudevillian, that she would pursue modern dance, her grandmother retorted, “A modern dancer is just a vaudevillian with an education.”

A Wicked veteran of 14 years, Alyssa began her journey with the musical as an understudy in the San Francisco production before finishing multiple Elphaba standby contracts on both the National Tour and Broadway. She also recently lent her voice to the soundtrack of the first Wicked movie adaptation.

Beyond Wicked, Alyssa also starred as Elsa in Disney’s Frozen with the closing company of the U.S. National Tour, having previously originated the Elsa standby role in the original Broadway cast.

Alyssa’s versatility has been showcased in numerous concert appearances, including the national tour of Disney Princess – The Concert and performances with Disney Concerts. She also stars in a Wicked NPR Tiny Desk Concert alongside Stephen Schwartz and McKenzie Kurtz. Additional credits include Frozen(North Shore Music Theatre) and Cats (Starring Buffalo).

ABOUT ALLI MAUZEY 

Alli Mauzey most recently starred on Broadway in the Tony Award Winning Best Musical Kimberly Akimbo as Pattie. A role she also created at The Atlantic Theater Company. Other Broadway credits include Glinda in Wicked, a role she also performed to critical acclaim on the First National Tour and the San Francisco company, Ernestina in the Tony Award winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, Lenora in the musical Cry-Baby, for which she won a Theatre World Award and was nominated for a Drama League Award, Brenda in Hairspray (both on Broadway and in the original company of the First National Tour) and as a Special Guest Artist in Kristin Chenoweth: For the Girls. Other New York Credits include, New York City Center Encores in the role of Minerva in The Golden Apple as well as Sydney in It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman, and the Off-Broadway production of Red Eye of Love. Regionally, she has appeared as Mallory in City of Angels for Reprise! in Los Angeles, Snookie in 110 in the Shade at the Pasadena Playhouse, and Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors at The Muny, for which she was nominated for a Kevin Kline Award.

Ms. Mauzey performs with symphony orchestras all around the world including but not limited to three engagements with The Philly Pops, Ellie in Show Boat with the New York Philharmonic, the title role in Cinderella alongside the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Wurttenbembreg Philharmonic of Reutlingen (Germany), and the world famous Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Upcoming and recent engagements include the Cleveland Pops, Maui Pops Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

Among many voiceover credits, her voice can be heard as a series regular on the animated television series Alpha Teens on Machines. She has a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in drama and a minor in music.

This class will teach introductory woodworking techniques. Students will cut, drill, screw, nail, glue, and sand the parts of a six pack carrier, including wooden dividers. At the end of the class, students will take the assembled carrier home to be stained, painted, clear-coated, or left raw to develop a natural patina through use.

This class is aimed at novice woodworkers, and all tools and materials will be supplied - no prior experience is required.

Tool certifications for members: chop (miter) saw, drill press, band saw.

Event Application The vendor is prohibited from bringing and offering for sale any item as outlined in the attached Hazardous Materials and Material Restrictions, and any firearms, weapons, drugs, tobacco, pornographic or lewd materials, animals, hazardous materials, alcohol, expired or recalled items, and any other items prohibited for sale or resale within the State of Connecticut or any other items determined to be inappropriate by SOB Staff.

All merchandise is subject to inspection by SOB staff and determination on its appropriateness. SOB staff shall have the right to require removal of any items determined to be inappropriate.
Areas purchased are 10’ x 10’ spaces for $35. Vendors should bring their own tables or surfaces to display items or products.

You will choose 3 stained glass hearts from a wide selection of colors and textures. You will learn to apply copper foil, solder, and patina, as well as simple wireworking skills to assemble and embellish your string of hearts into a lovely cascade for hanging.
