Presented by Steven Parlato

In conjunction with an exhibition of his 16-piece collage series, “They Are Not Disposable,” artist/author and college professor Steven Parlato will offer a program (including audience Q&A) discussing his process and inspiration in creating the series, which depicts 16 Black Americans whose lives were stolen due to racial violence. Part tribute, part call to action, the presentation, featuring Parlato’s poetry honoring those lost, will offer an opportunity for community conversation. If time allows, attendees will be encouraged to write their own poem inspired by an issue--for example, social justice, or the climate crisis--of particular personal relevance.

Lunch is included.

From Graffiti to Museum Galleries: The Art & Advocacy of Keith

Haring

This is a great Pride Month program! Keith Haring's vibrant and iconic art captured the spirit of 1980s New York City, blending pop art, graffiti, and social activism. What made his bold, energetic figures and symbols so universally appealing? Haring's work, characterized by its simplicity

and accessibility, addressed pressing issues including AIDS awareness. From

subway stations to museums, Haring's art continues to inspire and provoke thought decades after his untimely death.

Presented by Rt. Rev. Br. Mark D’Alessio

In the spirit of St. Francis, who saw all creation as kin and every moment as sacred, this retreat invites us to slow down, listen deeply, and immerse ourselves in the wisdom of the natural world. Rooted in Franciscan mindfulness, we will explore how nature reveals the Divine and calls us into presence, compassion, and interconnection.

"If you have some in humanity who exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, we will have a humanity who will deal likewise with their fellow creatures…” (St. Francis of Assisi)

Central to our day will be St. Francis’ Canticle of the Creatures and a 21st-century Cosmic Canticle adaptation by Br. Mark, expanding Francis’ vision to include the unfolding universe and sacredness of all life. Through guided nature bathing (forest therapy), embodied prayer, Eco Divina, sacred listening, and reflection on nature’s wisdom — including insights from The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben and The Overstory by Richard Powers — we will open ourselves to creation as sacred text as a living parable of resilience, beauty, and divine mystery.

This retreat is open to seekers, nature lovers, contemplatives, and any and all who are longing to reconnect with the sacredness of creation. Whether you are grounded in Franciscan spirituality or simply curious, you are welcome. It is especially ideal for those seeking a day of re-centering, mindfulness, and renewal.

Join Br. Mark in person and come slow down, listen, and invite the sacred wisdom of creation to awaken the Canticle within you. Creation is an outpouring of divine love and a wellspring of healing. Join us for a retreat day that offers space to breathe deeply, move gently, pray, sing, reflect, and reconnect with the holy presence alive in the natural world — as St. Francis once did and as the earth invites us to do today.

Lunch is included.

Join us for a powerful and uplifting Spiritual Juneteenth Program as we honor the legacy of our ancestors, celebrate liberation, and embrace the spirit of resilience and faith. This special gathering will feature inspiring prayers and historical reflections, highlighting the "Grandmother of Juneteenth". This is a message of hope rooted in the journey toward freedom.

Through gentle movement, spoken word, and community fellowship, we will reflect on the enduring strength of the African American spirit and the divine presence that has guided generations toward justice and equality. This event fosters community by creating a community circle inviting participants to engage in a *drum circle and cultural dance.

*Drums will be provided for up to 12 participants. If there are more or others who choose not to drum, they can use other instruments that will be available.

Together, we will rejoice in the triumphs of the past, find encouragement for the present, and seek divine wisdom for the future.

Come prepared to worship, celebrate, and uplift one another in the spirit of unity and liberation. All are welcome to this sacred and joyous occasion!
